Syroco Butterflies

If you were homemaking in the 80's these beauties may look very familiar and bring back tacky memories.  If you are like me & don't really remember the 80's then you'll appreciate the re-make of this awesome product - Syroco!

I've been eyeing these butterflies (already made-over) on Etsy.com - thinking how cute they would be in our bedroom makeovers.  On one of my thrifting trips I found a zip lock bag of 8 of them for .80¢ & another bag of 3 for .30¢.  Then at a second thrift store I discovered more.. You can only imagine my excitement!

All it took was a quick spritz of Krylon Spray Paint and a coat of glitter spray paint (a new fav product from Hobby Lobby) pretty cute makeover!

"We need to solve this mystery!"

Caleb loves to dress up and pretend! Lately he's been into solving "mysteries." It's really quite fun to see him use his imagination. This child is so creative! He blows me away with his ideas sometimes. And seriously, how cute is he in his detective get-up?! He put it together himself.

He's got his magnifying glass, his thinking cap, & his clue notebook. What more could he need? Oh yeah, a mystery!

I wonder how I can make this educational for him...maybe send my little detective out on a hunt for a certain letter or amount of something...hmmm...Do YOU have any ideas?

Upcoming Project!

A good friend was cleaning house and found all these treasures!  I've been inspired by pictures online of picture wall makeovers.  I am hoping by this summer I'll have enough to turn my 'glory bubble' wall into a wall of frames!  Thanks to Beth for the donation to my inspiration!

This one I love the dark wall with the white contrasting frames.

Again this one the contrast is great plus the various shapes, sizes, styles of frames.

This one is by far my favorite with the colored frames and writing on the wall.

Pillar Candleholders

We received these 2 candle holders as a wedding gift several years ago.  They've been in the garage left awaiting a face lift for awhile now...

 

This was unbelievably quick and easy just using Krylon Fusion in Black Gloss (no priming).

Now they fit in perfectly!

Remember last weekends used furniture store find?

Checkout the makeover!

Here is how it happened
1. I removed the legs and used a hammer to crack off the gold plastic from the legs.

2. Popped off the back panels and removed the shelf.

3. To paint the legs I taped off the coasters.  

4.  Poked holes in an old box  to give me a 360 angle for painting.

5. I painted everything with a can of Krylon Fusion 'the no-prep super bond paint' in black gloss.  The great thing about this paint is it requires no sanding & no priming!

6. I decided I wanted something fun for the back panels.  I picked up some butterfly fabric for $1 a yard at Wal-mart a few weeks ago.  I also had some Elmers Craft Bond Spray Adhesive on hand.  

7. I sprayed the panels with a good coat of the adhesive and then applied the fabric, adjusting as needed.

Let me know what you think.  I think it turned out pretty cute - now time to figure out which room will get to enjoy it.

Morning Glory Muffin Recipe

What's the story, Morning Glory?

Oh, you're hungry you say? Well, well, well...step into my kitchen!

My days can be pretty crazy as I manage my 3 little guys. But if I've got a batch of these made, it's bound to be a good day (for me anyway). These muffins are choc full of goodness & are also GOOD FOR YOU! My boys & my husband love these as much as I do too. I like to double & sometimes triple the recipe so I can freeze a dozen or so for later. I often have one for my breakfast, but I also have been known to snag one (or two) with a glass of milk for my lunch while I prepare a meal for my 4 & 2 year olds & shovel pureed green beans into my infant's mouth. Busy mommas need to try this recipe!

Ingredients

1 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup whole wheat flour

1/4 cup milled flax seed

1 cup white sugar

2 tsp baking soda

2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

2 cups shredded carrots (2-3 carrots)

1/2 cup raisins

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

1/2 cup unsweetened flaked coconut

1 apple - peeled, cored and shredded (McIntosh or Granny Smith work GREAT! Gala doesn't)

3 eggs

1 cup vegetable oil OR 1 cup unsweetened applesauce

2 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

1. Preheat your oven to 350 F & grease your muffin cups or line with paper muffin liners.

2. In a large bowl mix together the flours, flax, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.

3. Stir in the carrot, raisins, nuts, coconut, and apple.

4. In a separate bowl, beat together eggs, oil, and vanilla. 

 5. Stir egg mixture into the carrot/flour mixture, just until moistened.

 6. Scoop batter into prepared muffin cups & bake in your oven for 18-20 minutes.

Mmmmm, your kitchen is going to smell so good! This recipe is not only fantastic but it also leaves a lot of room for substitutions & deviations. I've used all whole wheat flour before, omitted the flax if I'm out, added crasins, pineapple, mashed banana, or nuts.  So you see, I don't always follow this recipe to a T. But that's one reason I love it so much! I've seen other versions of it on allrecipes.com and my Gram has a recipe much like this one as well. I'd bet that they're all pretty yummy!
