Spicing Things Up & Sharing My New Secret!

I've never been much of a spice snob...matter of fact, I usually stick to very basic spices & don't care too much what brand or quality they are...but my ways are beginning to change.
I've been working very hard at trying to create better quality meals for my family. We're trying to eliminate many processed & packaged foods from our diet. I'm glad we're doing this, but it can be challenging & TIME consuming to make things from SCRATCH, anybody follow me here?!
Welllll, recently I found this recipe for Homemade Chili & Taco Seasoning from My Baking Addiction. It was perfect! Quick & simple & made enough for multiple uses! But what I liked most is that I knew what ingredients were in it...and it tasted FANTASTIC!  It had the kick of a Medium packet of Chili Seasoning... I prefer a more mild seasoning so I may adjust the cayenne pepper next time, but I am REALLY happy with this recipe!
Tomorrow I'll share my Simple & Satisfying Chili Recipe! It's actually my mother-in-law's recipe...but it's made with this homemade chili seasoning :) It's super!

Getting Ready for Easter - Resurrection Buns

"He isn't here! 

He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen.

Our family LOVES Easter! As Christians, we celebrate Easter because of the life God has given us through Jesus' death & resurrection! It's the GOOD NEWS :) God sent his only Son, Jesus, to live a perfect life, & to die for our sins. His death is what gives us life & without Him we are nothing...

In our home we want to intentionally teach our children who God is & how He loves them unconditionally. We want them to understand what sin is, and what God's forgiveness is & how they can receive it through faith in Jesus. And through our own actions we want our children to see the fruit of His Spirit working & living in us.

When we tell the Easter story in a way our children can grasp, they are completely capable of understanding the message of Easter. 

This little activity is an AWESOME way to share the Easter story with ANYONE!

Can you guess what my family did today??

We made Resurrection Buns!

Last year, one of my besties did this with her little boys & I was very excited to try it with mine this year.  It's really a miracle that I remembered it! 

I'm sure many of you have seen this done or have done it yourself. It's such a fantastic idea!!

 As I held up a large marshmallow, I told the boys to pretended it was Jesus.

Then we talked about the things that happened to Jesus before he was nailed to the cross 

(beaten, spit on, yelled at).

We talked about WHY Jesus had to die (It was prophesied, He was THE ONE, He was perfect).

Then we talked about what Joseph did to Jesus' body after he was dead (Matthew 27).

This is when we put melted butter (embalming oils) on the marshmallow & rolled it in the cinnamon sugar mixture (burial spices).

Then we wrapped Jesus up in the crescent roll dough (burial clothes).

Then we baked them for 10 minutes & pretended it had been 3 days. We talked about how Jesus' friends must have felt (sad). We read the story out of their Children's Bible...

and then...went to look in the tomb...

 "He's gone!!!!! He's not dead anymore!"

Mid-week Rewind

One year ago today I posted this and thought it would be fun to share a mid-week flash back with all of you!!

I love this blog The Sisters 4 say.... More is more and this Scrappy Petal Tank!  I have lots of scraps and this poor tank that needed some mending...

 And this cute fabric that I had picked up for $1 a yard at Wal-Mart this winter

 I cut cute little petals - stitched them back to back.  Then all in a row.  Finally around the hem

 I added a couple Yo Yo's at the top just like the blog I read!  Check out the final product!

I picked up 2 more tanks this weekend with plans to make a couple more for other little girls in my life!

Bacon Mac & Cheese

Have you seen one of Kraft's newest products? My grocery stocks it next to their shredded cheese. It's called, Fresh Take Cheese & Breadcrumb mix. Great idea - everything you need (minus chicken) all in one neat little package!

I had a coupon and it was on sale so for .49 I thought I'd give this new product a try.  Instead of using it to coat my chicken I thought I'd try it out with some pasta.  My family loves homemade mac & cheese (which can be time consuming and costly..)  So I'm always trying new recipes to find one we really like.  This one ended up being very creamy and got RAVE reviews!

Cheddar Jack Bacon Mac & Cheese

Ingredients

16oz box Picolini pasta

Fresh Take Cheddar-Jack & Bacon

1 Jar Ragu Classic Alfredo Sauce

-Cook Pasta according to directions on box until al dente.  Drain pasta and set aside.
-In same sauce pan add entire jar of Alfredo sauce, stir in cheese from the Fresh Take package (save breadcrumbs for later).  Stir until creamy and all cheese is melted.
-Add in cooked pasta and stir until combined.
-Pour pasta mixture into greased 9x13 pan
-Sprinkle breadcrumb mixture from Fresh Take over the pasta
-Bake 350 for 20-25 minutes until cheese bubbles

I can't wait to try the other Fresh Take's flavors in my Mac & Cheese Experiments!
